Saido Watanabe (1913~) 1962.Watanabe prints over Japanese hand-crumpled paper, often used to cover traditional book-wrappers or as end-papers for modern books,to give a feeling of rough,folk-like simplicity. Over this he stencils simple forms which, though Christian in subject ,are reminiscent of the early Buddhist prints of Japan, most notably in the large. simplified eyes. Here the paper is dyed a Mustard yellow ,with all the colors applied over it. 478cm.x332cm. Framed and matted.
